The HIGHchives

Missed a recipe? Don't trip. All the good shit is still here. Dig through the stash and find something worth making twice.

Lemon Kush’n, Garlic Gush’n

Infused Compound Butter

This ain’t your regular garlic butter. You’ve got zesty lemon. An irresponsible amount of garlic. Herbs to make that shit fancy. And just enough kush to put the “compound” in compound butter.

Melt it over seafood, toss it with pasta, put it on steak, vegetables, potatoes, or warm bread… basically, anywhere regular butter goes when it decides to have a little personality.

Shit You Need

½–1 oz dried cannabis flower or trim

Use decent flower, please. It does not have to be top shelf, but don’t use shitty weed and then act surprised when your butter tastes like lawn clippings and regret.

2 lbs unsalted butter

Unsalted because we’re adding our own salt… and because apparently we’re supposed to be watching our sodium and cholesterol and shit. We’re trying to get high, not meet our cardiologist.

1 quart hot water

It’s water. Don’t overthink it.

6 cloves fresh garlic….or more

Measure that shit with your heart. The goal is enough garlic to keep the vampires, bad dates, and anybody trying to “just taste a little” away.

1 whole lemon

We’re using the zest AND the juice because we paid for the whole lemon.

3 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

Fresh parsley because it makes shit look fancy. Suddenly it’s not weed butter, it’s compound butter. See how that works?

Salt, to taste

“To taste” means taste your food, DUH!

Step 1: Wake the Weed Up

Preheat your oven to 225°F.

Break the cannabis into small pieces or give it a coarse grind. Don’t pulverize it into dust…we’re making butter, not seasoning chicken.

Spread it evenly on a baking sheet and bake for about 30 minutes, giving it a gentle stir halfway through.

This is called decarboxylation, or decarbing if you don’t have all damn day cuz that’s a big word for Elmo! Basically, we’re using heat to activate the cannabinoids before they go into the butter.

Step 2: Make the Infused Butta

Add the 2 pounds of butter and 1 quart of hot water to a saucepan or slow cooker.

Once the butter melts, add your decarbed cannabis.

Keep everything low and slow for 3–4 hours, stirring occasionally.

Do not boil the hell out of it. We’re infusing butter, not making gumbo.

Step 3: Strain That Shit

Place cheesecloth over a fine-mesh strainer and carefully strain the mixture into a heat-safe container.

And listen: don’t squeeze the cheesecloth like it owes you money. You’ll force more plant material into the butter and can make the flavor harsher.

Let everything cool, then put it in the refrigerator until the butter becomes completely solid.

Once it’s firm, lift the butter off the top and pour out the water underneath.

Congratulations, It’s Butta, Baby!

But we’re not done because Basic Bitch Butta wasn’t the assignment.

Step 4: Now Make It Hella Good

Finely mince your garlic.

Chop your fancy-ass parsley.

Zest your lemon before cutting it. Trust me, trying to zest two slippery lemon halves will have you questioning your life choices.

Cut the lemon in half.

Melt your Butta over low heat and add the garlic.

Cook for about 1 minute, just until the garlic becomes fragrant and starts thinking about changing color.

Don’t burn it. Burnt garlic will ruin everybody’s mood, which is literally the opposite of what we’re trying to accomplish.

Add the lemon zest and fresh lemon juice, followed immediately by your parsley.

Stir everything together for about 30 seconds, then remove it from the heat.

Add salt to taste.

Taste it.

Adjust it.

You’re the chef now.

Step 5: Make It Cute

You can pour the finished butter into a jar, or let it cool slightly, spoon it onto parchment paper, roll it into a log, twist the ends and refrigerate until firm.

Slice off a round whenever your food needs a mood!

🧚🏾‍♂️ ApotheKary Fairy Note

Homemade cannabis infusions can vary a lot in potency depending on the flower, amount used, cannabinoid content, and extraction.

So don’t look at one cute little slice of butter and decide:

“That doesn’t look like enough.”

That’s how horror stories begin.

Start small, give it time, and remember that edibles can take significantly longer to kick in than inhaled cannabis.

Adults only. Label it clearly, keep it away from children and pets, don’t drive impaired, and stay yo ass out of jail.

Don’t be shy. Say High!
